How many times have you seen people in shock because their spouse has asked for a divorce, while the people around them had seen it coming for months?
Sometimes people can be blind to the reality of their situation. Getting caught out like that puts you at a disadvantage in a divorce, as your spouse will have more time to prepare while you may spend the whole divorce process coming to terms with it all, inhibiting your ability to make good decisions.
Look out for any of the following in your marriage as they could indicate it is time to start thinking about a divorce.
You no longer fight
Disagreements often become more frequent and intense when a marriage is going through a rough patch. If they suddenly then stop it is generally a really bad sign, as it indicates one party has decided there is no point even trying anymore. It could mean they have already decided they are going to solve things once and for all by filing for a divorce.
You no longer do things together
Can you remember when you were first in love? How you used to spend so much time together and how you would go and try new things just because the other person liked doing it? Spending some time apart and maintaining separate interests and friends is healthy. Yet if you find yourself spending all your time apart, and rarely doing anything together, then it could indicate your marriage is in danger.
You feel the other person is not pulling their weight
There needs to be some kind of equality in a marriage. If your spouse is constantly complaining that they are the one earning all the money and you never contribute, or if you are complaining that they never lift a finger to help you around the house, then clearly you don’t feel that equality is there. That can lead to resentment which can destroy a marriage.
With a lot of hard work, you might be able to make things better. However, often, such signs are an indicator that learning more about divorce is a good idea.
